Zonta Foothills Club of Boulder County

Bev Hackbart Scholarship

What is the Zonta Foothills-Bev Hackbart Scholarship?

In keeping with our club’s mission to “provide resources and to … empower women and improve their status,” this annual scholarship, awarded in perpetuity, will assist in the education of a single mother enrolled at the University of Colorado. Funds will be earmarked for tuition, books, and other college-related expenses.

Who was Bev Hackbart?

Bev Hackbart was a long-standing member of the Zonta Foothills Club, who died in May, 2000 two months after co-chairing the Cantabile Singers Benefit Concert, which raised $8,500. She was the fund-raising underpinning in our club for many years, chairing projects like the Crossroads Mall Invitational Craft Show, the Doll & Teddy bear Shows, & the Gingerbread House Holiday Sale. (Many of us have fond memories of working in her basement with our hands, clothes & hair full of icing!) She worked tirelessly as a member of the Service Committee supporting projects like the Front Range “Dress for Success” project & the Safe House holiday party. She was always willing to share her talents & business acumen to benefit women less fortunate than herself. Bev is remembered for her unfailing dedication to Zonta and its mission.

Why did Zonta Foothills Club start this scholarship?

In honor Bev Hackbart’s work to improve the status of women in the work place, our club has established a scholarship to be awarded in Bev’s honor beginning in 2009. Zonta Foothills Club will fund and manage this scholarship as a way of continuing Bev’s vision to projects like Front Range’s “Dress for Success” and Project Self Sufficiency.
