Zonta’s Vision for Young Women

In the last century opportunities for women have increased dramatically in many parts of the world. But despite this growth, women’s participation in positions of public influence continues to lag behind. Though women account for nearly 50 percent of the workforce, only 10 percent hold positions in the world’s parliaments.

One of Zonta International’s goals is to “improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women through service and advocacy” through the funding scholarships and awards for women and girls with exceptional vision, ability and talent.

The Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Awards encourage young women who have demonstrated leadership skills and interest in civic causes to continue pursuing their dreams. Since 1990, the Awards have recognized pre-university and pre-college women students committed to leadership in public policy, government and volunteer organizations.

Our Local Scholarship - with additional potential

The Zonta Foothills Club of Boulder County and the Zonta Club of Boulder are partnering to fund our local “Young Woman in Public Affairs” Scholarship. This local $1000 scholarship is available to high school-aged girls in Boulder County who have demonstrated leadership skills and an interest in civic causes. The winner will then be eligible for district and international awards of $500 and $1000 respectively

Eligibility

Pre-university or pre-college women students (ages 16-20) at the time of application are eligible to apply.
