President’s Letter
We CARE ALOT, and that was obvious on Saturday when all hands were on deck for our successful Climate Justice Forum. Commemorating International Women’s Day, this event was a perfect example of women in action who care deeply about the world that we are leaving to our next generation of women and girls. Thank you, everyone. First to our Advocacy Team, who have been working tirelessly planning this event over the past few months, from securing the perfect venue to confirming our inspiring panel and moderator to planning every minute of the day. It was planned down to the minute…as we left the room at 3:59! (We had a vision of throwing a pajama party last night if they locked the doors before we could get everything out.)
Thank you to the Community Outreach team for getting us publicity in the Daily Camera and for securing Sara Gillepie’s front-page opinion piece in the Boulder Weekly! It helped us fill that room with very interested people! Thank you to the Governance and Engagement Committee for hosting our Zonta table; we already have leads from audience members interested in joining our Club. We couldn’t have done it without the Service Committee and every Club member who came out to set up tables, chairs, and everything necessary to make things run smoothly. And I would be leaving out a very important team if I forgot our Pantherz Z Club members! They were a fearless team, helping us with set up, working with the tabling organizations, collecting audience questions, and lending their hands with our take down! They are the next generation of leaders, without a doubt.
Now it is time to revel in the success of this amazing event, take a little time, and sit back over the next few beautiful days…but not for long.
We were so inspired by our Climate Justice Scholars and our young Z Club members this weekend…remember, those programs are only as effective as our fundraising to support our Zonta Foothills Foundation. So, to make it all a reality, we need all hands on deck because Zing is just over a month away. The link to buy early bird tickets is up and running, and this week at our March business meeting, we will enjoy the annual tradition of selecting our Zing Stars! Just one item on our short meeting agenda, then a night together being entertained by the local performers who have submitted audition tapes! We have a variety of performers, so we have a fun evening in store. BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP! Please ask your neighborhood businesses for gift cards for our silent auction, and most of all, try to secure a few more sponsorships! These are so important to our event’s success.
We are asking for your support each year…Please sell 5 tickets. That doesn’t mean you need to buy them. It means telling everyone about our work and this fun event and asking them to join us. Think about it this way. These days, one movie ticket costs about $20. If you buy a large box of popcorn it’s$10, ($12 if you add butter), and then there is the box of Raisinettes, maybe $7…You are more than halfway to a Zing Early bird ticket, and you aren’t supporting our great work! This isn’t hard sell. We all want to help our community.
Here’s to a BIG ZING for Zonta! Remember “…unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.”

$1,000 to the Amelia Earhart Fund. This fund awards up to 30 Fellowships of $10,000 each year to talented women pursuing advanced studies in aerospace engineering and space sciences.
$2,000 to the Zonta Rose Fund. This fund provides additional support to Zonta Foundation for Women programs not fully supported by fund-specific contributions and enables the Foundation to support new program development, like the new Zonta Women in Business Leadership and Zonta Women in STEM awards.
$4,000 to the Zonta International Service Fund. This fund supports programs that have provided training, education, sanitation, agricultural, and micro-credit assistance to women, primarily through projects implemented by agencies of the United Nations and other recognized non-governmental organizations. Given the cuts to many important organizations around the world, we feel that this is an important fund to support, thereby giving ZI the discretion to support critical programs as needed.
This distribution was approved by the board. Our Full Club membership will vote to support this allocation at Thursday’s meeting.
Committee Chairs, please enter committee dates into the Collaborative Hub so Club members know about all upcoming activities.
We have a lot to shout about, so the Community Outreach Committee is working hard on emails and newspaper postings and by supporting our Committees to spread the word about our Clubs’ accomplishments. Most recently, Sheila Cohen got us some great PR for the Climate Forum, including an opportunity to post Sara Gillespie’s informative opinion piece regarding Zonta Says Now in the Boulder Weekly. If you have some information you would like us to promote in the local media, on social media, or our website, please let us know.

They are planning a number of events for the school community, taught by our community partners at Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Non-Violence (SPAN). These workshops will discuss healthy relationships, boundaries, and consent.

Our First Zonta Foothills Climate Justice Forum Draws Crowds
Thank you everyone for supporting our first-ever Climate Justice Forum. The crowd was over 100 strong and everyone was intrigued by the discussion of climate and environmental justice led by CU students Sara Fleming, Mariah Bowman and Casey Davis, our 2025 Climate Justice Scholars from CU, climate leader KC Becker and our 2025 Woman of Achievement Lesley Smith. Our committee certainly learned a lot about this global challenge and we will continue to lead our Club as we advocate for Zonta Says Now. We are already looking ahead to our second annual forum next year!
Thanks for coming out to help with setup and takedown and a special thank you to our Panther Z Club members who were there in force!
Our Women of Achievement, Lesley Smith also sent us a note saying, “Thank you for allowing me to be a part of Zonta's inaugural Climate Justice Panel. It was so fun to be with KC and the three women from CU. Their passion is just amazing and gives us all hope for the future.”

Mother House and Other Fun Projects Coming up
Several years ago, our Zonta Club spent a memorable evening sharing dinner and enjoying the resident’s company at Mother House in South Boulder. (Most recently, we made valentines for the moms and supported them at our October District 12 conference by collecting diapers and baby items.) They have invited us to reinstate this event. It's a great opportunity to share a meal, socialize, and make a difference for these new moms - date and time TBD.
Z Club Scholarships Open to Applicants
Each year our EducateZ Committee administers the promotion and award of our two Z Club-related scholarships. This year’s application process for the Pantherz Z Club Scholarship and the Golden Z Club Scholarship are open from March 10 through April 11. We will invite our winners to our May business meeting.
Our Golden Z Education Fund is available all year for Golden and Platinum Z Club members who need support covering extra expenses.
Natural Highs Helps Us Reduce Stress
Avani G. Dilger, the foundat of Natural Highs spent a calming afternoon with our Z Club this month. Sharing special non-judgmental dialogue, healthy rituals, AcuDetox/AcuWellness, and inspiration to examine your life. We had an amazing time and left with many tools we can use to take on the rigors of school and day-to-day life.
Lots of smiling faces from our Z Club when they received the Valentine’s Day cards that we made for them at our February business meeting!

In May we will be creating gift bags for Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Non-Violence (SPAN) of toiletries, nail polish, and other fun items. More on this project later.
Finally, when the weather warms up, we will host another book-sorting day at the storage lockers to tidy up and make everything more accessible.
Vote on Zonta International Allocation
We do have one bit of very important Advocacy Committee work that we need to bring to our full membership. Now is the time to vote on our 2025 Zonta International Allocation. Each year our Club contributes a percentage of the prior year’s fundraising to the programs and projects of ZI. You may remember that in our Clu-wide approved 2024-25 budget, we agreed to give $7,000 this year. Now is the time to decide how to allocate that donation across Zonta funds. The Advocacy Committee has done a good deal of research, and we have spoken with our District 12 Foundation Ambassador to look at the needs around the world. With her input and some careful deliberation among our Committee members and discussion with our Club board, we will be asking our Club to approve the following recommendation:
