Together, We Can Make a Difference

As we look around our community, many families in our neighborhoods are impacted by the current political climate. Putting food on the table for your family, keeping your word to your employer, but being afraid of the consequences of showing up, and continuing your college education without knowing where to get rent money are all challenges. These struggles are genuine and present everywhere.

Because of this, organizations like the Zonta Foothills Club are crucial to our community. Our goal is to make the world a better place for girls and women. This year’s Colorado Gives Day takes on even more significance as one of our biggest fundraising events approaches.  Together, we can make a difference. With our commitment to raising money on December 9th, we can have an impact on Boulder County. On this day alone, we typically get donations of over 25% of our yearly revenue. We really depend on the kind assistance of your relationships with family and friends.

We are more grateful than ever for your extra work in making Colorado Gives Day a big success.

— Nancy

Advocacy Committee

Commemorating Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Advocacy Committee was busy last month with inspiring activities for Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. In partnership with the Boulder County District Attorney’s office and the Longmont Police Department’s Domestic Violence Response Team, we served lunch on both October 14th and 15th to more than 110 attendees of a Domestic Violence Training seminar held in Longmont. Members of law enforcement, victim support, and prosecutors from around the county and the state received in-depth training on a broad range of skills critical to domestic violence criminal prosecution and victim support.

The Advocacy Committee was also honored to coordinate our club’s sponsorship of the Beth Haynes Memorial Award winner, Brad Steinike, and the Beth Haynes Award ceremony on October 16th.

Advocacy Hosting November Business Meeting

We will be hosting the November speaker meeting on November 13. Our special guests will be Colorado State Senators Janice Marchman (representing Colorado State Senate District 15) and Katie Wallace (representing Colorado State Senate District 17). They will discuss how bills navigate the legislative process to become laws and talk about several upcoming bills of particular interest to our Club. Specifically, they will have news to share regarding a potential child marriage bill that may be sponsored in the 2026 legislative session.

Come early, meet your state senators, and enjoy a Qdoba dinner starting at 5:30 pm. Please RSVP to the Google meeting invitation from Nancy so we can get a headcount for dinner.

Fundraising Committee

Colorado Gives is Almost Here - PLEASE HELP

Colorado Gives Day is a critical state-wide day of philanthropy, and our Foundation relies heavily on the donors who learn about us and donate of their year-end contributions to our mission! So this week, we will mail more than 200 copies of this 2024-2025 Annual Report to past and present donors to let them know how their donations have impacted women in our community and around the world.

So you are probably asking, “How can I help on Colorado Gives Day?”…It’s easy:

  1. Sign up for a short Zoom session to learn how to set up your page. (It’s easy to do and so effective!) Pam will be sending out a sign-up for the meetings.

  2. Create your own Colorado Gives page, which you will share with your friends and family. It links to our Foundation page, which contains a lot of information about our Foundation.

  3. Send emails to your friends and family asking them to donate to the Zonta Foothills Foundation by Tuesday, January 9…They can do it any time at all; our page is active NOW!

  4. Check out our Colorado Gives Web Page

  5. Please SPREAD THE WORD!! We need your support!!

Educatez Scholarship Committee

Introducing Our Newest Scholarship - Women in STEM

The deadline for our newest Zonta International Scholarship, Women in STEM, is just around the corner.

The Zonta Foothills Club will select a local winner to receive its $5,000 scholarship. This winner is then considered for additional scholarship funding at both the district and international levels. The District 12 winner, selected from a four-state region (CO, MT, SD, WY), will receive a $2,000 award and move on to compete for one of 16 Zonta International Foundation awards of $10,000 plus a complimentary one-year supporting membership in Zonta International for the next financial year. That means our first winner of the Women in STEM Scholarship has the opportunity to receive $17,000!

As a reminder, this scholarship uplifts innovation and celebrates the remarkable accomplishments of women between 18 - 35 years of age in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields and acknowledges their groundbreaking research, pioneering discoveries, and/or exemplary contributions to advancing knowledge and innovation in a STEM field. By recognizing and supporting these exceptional women, Zonta aims to inspire future generations and foster inclusivity and diversity in the world of STEM.

The deadline to apply is 5:00 pm on Monday, November 17th. Our winner will be selected by December 8th and will be submitted for consideration at the next level of competition.

If you’re interested in reading applications for this, please contact Nancy or Michelle.

Zonta Educatez Committee

October was a Busy Month for Educatez!

From inducting new Pantherz Z Club members to hosting 15 interested GoldenZ members at Sheila’s house, there was plenty of excitement and engagement.

Perspective members from around Boulder County came to hear all about the Golden and Platinum Z Club. We had attendees from CU Boulder, Front Range, CU Denver, and other young professionals who are working in the community. Gaby and Claudia talked about the Clubs and together they all brainstormed ideas for an exciting 25-26 year. Big thanks to Sheila King for hosting the group.

We are looking forward to the months ahead!

2025-26 Pantherz Z Club Officers

As we approach the end of the first semester, ZClub has been hard at work creating its silhouette exhibit in the BHS library, each sharing a story from a victim of domestic and sexual violence. ZClub organizes this meaningful project every year in October to honor Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Inducting Our Newest Z Club Members and Officers

Thank you to those Foothills members who joined us at Boulder High School to welcome our newest group of Z Club members. They are an excited group, ready to dive into fantastic community service and advocacy projects! During the ceremony, our officers spoke about their Club’s mission and what inspires them to take an active role in their school, their community, and the world. State Senator Katie Wallace was our keynote speaker, encouraging our members to give back to their community and use their voice for positive change.

Governance and Engagement Committee

Introducing Our New Member Ambassador

Great News! From now on, all of our new members will receive special treatment, thanks to our New Member Ambassador, Sara Gillespie.

Sara has agreed to take on this newly created position, designed to welcome members and assimilate them into our mission and the Club’s inner workings. We want to turn a member’s first year of membership into a welcoming and rewarding experience, and Sara will be the tour guide. Here are a few of the things that Sara will coordinate with each new member:

  • Identify the committee(s) that they want to learn about and then join.

  • Connect new members with committee chairs so they can invite them to meetings and events.

  • Coordinate onboarding of new members by identifying mentors or a group of mentors/ buddies from Club members.

  • Orient new member on:

    • Zonta Foothills Club vs Zonta Foothills Foundation

    • Structure of Club

    • Structure of Zonnta International /District 12/Area 2

    • Zonta lingo

    • The focus of our advocacy, scholarships, education, and service

    • website/ flash/ social media

So Committee Chairs, if you get a call from Sara, help her out! It’s probably great news about a new member’s interest in your committee’s important work.
